General information about the ingredients used in this supplement product:

(This is NOT product specific and is only listed as educational material)

L-ascorbic provides the major benefits of vitamin C to the immune system, joints, heart, eyes and skin. Lutein is a yellow or else orange pigment present in some fruits and vegetables. N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is the amino acid L-Cysteine including an acetyl (-CO-CH3) group attached to the amino (NH2) group. The acetyl group functions to faster absorption and distribution of orally ingested cysteine. Amino acids which contain a sulfur group have antioxidant properties. Taurine is an amino sulfonic acid that is present in elevated levels in the skeletal and heart muscles and also in the white blood cells, and the central nervous system. Vitamin E is a fat soluble antioxidant vitamin that helps to neutralize potentially damaging free radicals in our body. Vitamin A is the combined name for a group of fat-soluble vitamins. The most utilized form of vitamin A is retinol, often called pre-formed vitamin A as it is the active form of the vitamin in the body.

Functions of Antioxidant Nutrients on the Eye:

Lutein is concentrated in the retina of the eyes and is indispensable for good vision. A diet rich in lutein may lower your risk of developing cataracts and macular degeneration. N-AcetylCysteine (NAC) helps is boosting intracellular glutathione via elevated intracellular cysteine. In nature its main role is as a substrate in the conjugation of bile acids in the liver. Taurine is present abundantly in human breast milk and it is thought to be central for infant brain and retinal development. Research also suggests that it might also protect cell membranes from toxic substances. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects cell membranes and other fat-soluble parts of the body, such as low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, from damage. Vitamin E provides this protection because of its function as an antioxidant and its roles in the anti-inflammatory processes, inhibition of platelet aggregation, and immune enhancement. The primary role of vitamin A is for eyesight in such a way that a vitamin A compound is required in the transformation of the light's reception in the retina to be understood by the brain to communicate a picture. Vitamin A or retinol is required to start the chemical process that signals the brain which allows the eye to adjust from bright to dim light. In retina rods, retinal, a derivative of retinol, combines with rodopsin to form a complex that is highly sensitive to light. One of the earliest sign of vitamin A deficiency is night-impaired sight.
