General information about the ingredients used in this supplement product:

(This is NOT product specific and is only listed as educational material)

Boron is a chemical element with the atomic number 5 and the chemical symbol B. Boron is not found free in nature, it occurs as orthoboric acid found in certain volcanic spring waters and as borates in boron. The sources of boron are ore rasorite and tincal. Both these ores are found in the Mojave Desert. Tincal is the most important source of boron from the Mojave Desert. Boron is a relatively rare element in the Earth's crust, representing only 0.001 The name boron originates from the Arabic word buraq or the Persian word burah which are names for the mineral borax. Boron compounds were known thousands of years ago. Borax was known from the deserts of western Tibet, where it received the name of tincal, derived from the Sanskrit. Boron was not recognized as an element until it was isolated by Sir Humphry Davy, Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac and Louis Jacques Thénard in 1808 through the reaction of boric acid and potassium. Davy called the element boracium. Jöns Jakob Berzelius identified boron as an element in 1824. The first pure boron was arguably produced by the American chemist W. Weintraub in 1909

Functions of Boron:

Boron is essential in very little amounts by the body for keeping healthy bones and for the metabolism of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. Boron is an essential plant nutrient, required primarily for maintaining the integrity of cell walls. Boron has been suggested for numerous medicinal purposes, but there is still a lack of strong evidence for any specific use. Research is still being conducted to find out more functions of this mineral.

Symptoms of Boron Deficiency:

There is not much information regarding boron deficiency in humans, however, a deficiency in boron is believed to impact mineral metabolism, cognitive function, steroid hormone and vitamin levels, and bone integrity.

Good Food Sources of Boron:

Boron occurs in all foods produced from plants.
