General information about the ingredients used in this supplement product:

(This is NOT product specific and is only listed as educational material)

Vitamin E is also known as d-alpha-tocopherol, and it is a fat soluble vitamin. Vitamin E is not a solitary vitamin but in fact a group of eight antioxidants. Four of the antioxidants are tocopherols and four are tocotrienols. In terms of bio-availabilty, potency, and effectiveness, the natural form of vitamin E is superior. One of the roles fat plays in the diet is to transport fat-soluble vitamins. So Vitamin E is carried through the body attached to fat. The body stores vitamin E in fat deposits and in the liver. Vitamin E in the form of d-alpha-tocopherol is the preferred form for optimal use by the body.

Functions of Vitamin E:

Vitamin E functions as an antioxidant to protect the body cells from oxidation. Oxidation is a chemical reaction in the body that can lead to cell damage. Oxidation is also a natural part of aging. Scientists believe that this cell damage can lead to chronic health problems such as heart disease. Vitamin E can contribute to reducing the risk of heart disease and improving overall health.

Symptoms of Vitamin E Deficiency:

The vitamin E deficiency symptoms are usually seen in premature infants, individuals with genetic abnormalities and those who cannot digest fat. Mild hemolytic anemia, non-specific neurological deficits, disorders related to reproduction and infertility, fragile RBC, cataracts, some neurological damages, muscle, liver and brain function abnormalities, muscle weakness are some of the symptoms of deficiency of viamin E.

Good Food Sources of Vitamin E:

Sources of vitamin E are vegetable oils, including sunflower, safflower, canola, corn, olive, and wheat germ oil, margarine, nuts, seeds, wheat germ, mustard greens, broccoli, and unprocessed cereal grains. Leafy-green vegetables also contain Vitamin E, but in smaller amounts.
