L-Theanine
Theanine has several functions and health benefits. Theanine is an analog to glutamine and glutamate, and can cross the blood-brain barrier. In 1950 the Tea laboratory of Kyoto successfully separated theanine from Gyokuro leaf, which has the highest theanine content among all teas. As a natural phytochemical found in Japanese green tea, L theanine is a non-essential amino acid that is present in the brain. A close relative of Glutamate, studies indicate that L Theanine interacts with the neurotransmitter, GABA (gammaminobutyrate). GABA, known for its importance in nervous system functioning, works with the mood centers of the brain. Studies in Japan show that L Theanine helps support the body’s ability to deal with PMS and occasional, everyday anxiety. L Theanine is one of Solgar's high quality amino acids supplements. Solgar offers two different sizes of theanine: 30 or 60 capsules per container.
