Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)
Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) has several functions and health benefits. Dealing with the stress of daily living takes all your faculties, especially the optimal health of your brain and nervous system. Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA ) is known for its importance in nervous system functioning and for working with the mood centers of the brain. Gamma-aminobutyric acid was first synthesized in 1883 and was first known only as a plant and microbe metabolic product. In 1950, however, GABA was discovered to be an integral part of the mammalian central nervous system. GABA is an amino acid naturally produced by the body that functions as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. As a neurotransmitter, GABA’s role is to support cellular function. Gamma Aminobutyric Acid also plays a role in regulating neuronal excitability throughout the nervous system. In humans, GABA is also directly responsible for the regulation of muscle tone. Solgar´s Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) is one of Solgar's high quality amino acids supplement products.
