Solgar L-Carnitine

L-Carnitine has several functions and health benefits. L-Carnitine is a conditionally essential nutrient important for the heart. L-Carnitine is actually a Dipeptide - an amino acid made up of two other essential amino acids, methionine and lysine. Its name is derived from the fact that it was first isolated from meat (carnus) in 1905. Only the L-isomer of carnitine is biologically active. Under certain conditions, the demand for L-carnitine may exceed an individual's capacity to synthesize it, making it a conditionally essential micronutrient. L-Carnitine is important for fat metabolism, especially in the heart and muscle cells. It is also necessary for the transport of long chain fatty acids into cell mitochondria where the acids are oxidised and burned for energy. Solgar offers several different L Carnitine supplement products, either as a single Carnitine supplement, or supplements that combine carnitine with the more bioavailable ALC (Acetyl L Carnitine) form. These complexes can be very useful if you suspect you may have carnitine deficiency symptoms.
